Ending to Begin the New

Towards the end of this year I began looking at Psalms 34: 3 “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.”  David wrote this Psalm in the cave of Adullam.  He was running from King Saul who was trying to kill him and he had feigned madness in front of Achish King of Gath to escape.  The Bible says in 1 Samuel 22 “So David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam; and when his brothers and all his father’s household heard of it, they went down there to him.  Everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him.”

Everyone that gathered with David in the cave had to decide to make an end of whatever it was in their lives that was causing them problems.    This was a roughneck group of men that went into the cave one way and came out of the cave another way.  They left the cave and began defeating the enemies of Israel, moving from victory to victory.  A stark contrast to living in distress, discontent and debt.

Everyone is created with a gift inside of them that is specific to their place and time in history.  God gifted men so that through their gift in Him the world would be taken back and the Kingdom would advance.  We are all given a metron, or sphere of influence.  The Kingdom advances through us as we have victory in our sphere of influence.  Here’s the thing, we all have the “dis” when we are not aligned properly with God to do what he created us to do in the place that he created us for.   Just like David’s mighty men before they came to the cave; they were not doing what they were created to do.  I believe that these men did not become one of the most famous armies in history on accident.  They were created for it by God, to live in the time that they lived in, in the place they lived, to fight the armies that came against Israel.  They were physically strong, confident and courageous, valiant and brave.  They not only had the physical strength but they also had the inward strength.  They were created for victory.  When they aligned with David, all that they were created to do came to fullness.

I also believe that the cave represents a discover for the men.  They made a choice to answer the call from God to join David who had been anointed King by God but had not received his kingdom.  It was a time to do battle and find the favor of men, to fight for the place.  It would not be until years later that David became King over Judah and later Israel.  All along the mighty men of David fought, victory to victory.  Their influence advancing with every battle.

This is a year to surrender to what the Lord wants to end in your life so that you can move into the next portion that He has for you.  In the months ahead many of us will experience a dramatic pruning that is going to give room for dramatic growth.  Time in the Presence of God will lead to revelation on what areas of your life need cut away.  I encourage you to meditate on Psalms 34 in the next few weeks.  Taste and see that the Lord is good!  Go into the heart of the Father and come out refreshed and ready to receive the next portion, the victory, the new!  Remember we never surrender to lose, we surrender to win.  It may look like you are in hiding, escaping the enemy, the truth is you are arming yourself for the victory.  Strengthening yourself with power that can only come from an inside source, the Holy Spirit.  You will emerge with the power of Holy Spirit on you in a new way, new assignments will be released, new influence taken.

Just like Israel, our region is crying out for victory.  Let us align ourselves with God so that opportunity can be released and the Kingdom advanced this year.  We will have impact this year in all areas of our lives.  We will end anything that needs ending and begin the new equipped and empowered to take our next portion.
